Centers of Excellence join forces for professional clothing drive

The College of Business Centers of Excellence recently led a combined effort to encourage faculty, staff, and students to clean out their closets and donate any lightly used and in-season professional clothing to the Career Closet.

Located in McGuffey Hall, the Career Closet provides Ohio University students with business professional and business casual clothes for interviews, career fairs, formal events, or any career-related function, both on and off campus.

"While Ohio University offers many opportunities for students to attend career fairs, engage in interviews, and participate in networking events, we also understand that access to professional attire is often a financial barrier for college students," said College of Business Assistant Dean for Career and Student Success Center Mel Kulp. "The Career Closet is a useful resource open to all Ohio University students, providing opportunities to increase their self-confidence, allowing them to focus on making a good first impression when speaking with potential future employers."

College of Business Director of Undergraduate Programs Jim Strode said that he was proud to be a part of the effort to support the Career Closet.

"Student success starts from within, and the collaboration of efforts, through this clothing drive, is a powerful example that showcases how the Centers of Excellence at the College of Business are supporting our Bobcats both in and out of the classroom,” Strode said.

While the Centers of Excellence clothing drive is over, members of the University community are encouraged to donate professional clothing items to the Career Closet throughout the year.

All OHIO students can also visit the Career Closet in McGuffey Hall on the College Green from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. No appointment is needed.
