OHIO Online ranked tops in state by Newsweek and Statista

Ohio University continues to be a national leader in online education, having been recognized by Newsweek and Statista as one of America’s Top Online Colleges 2023.

OHIO Online ranked 53rd out of 200 of the nation’s top colleges and universities that offer online undergraduate or graduate programs, the best ranking in Ohio. This is the second annual ranking by Newsweek, one of the nation’s most reputable news publications, which partnered with global data firm Statista to crunch the numbers. Ohio University also received a five-star ranking for having an aggregate score value higher than the median score for the 200 institutions listed in the ranking.

“Ohio University is a forward-thinking, globally-minded institution that’s committed to providing educational access and affordability to all students,” said OHIO President Hugh Sherman. “It is an honor to be recognized by Newsweek and Statista and to see OHIO’s position as a top leader in online education become further solidified.”

The ranking highlights top colleges and universities in the nation based on an online survey with over 11,400 assessments from more than 9,000 respondents who participated in online college degree programs. Respondents were asked to share their experiences by rating the institutions regarding the following criteria: organization and accessibility, support and service, cost of program, perceived organizational reputation, expected success, and practical relevance of contents. Furthermore, the criteria included institutional indicators, overall satisfaction with the organization and to what extent they would recommend it to others.

OHIO’s online programs are user-friendly, personalized and designed to help each student achieve their individual goals. There are over 6,000 students enrolled in over 60 of OHIO’s online programs.

“We are very proud of our online programs,” said Kari Lehman, vice provost for OHIO Online. “Not only are we reframing what education is and delivering it to people who don’t want to interrupt their career or may not be able to attend campus-based programs, we’ve created a model that is by no means compromised by being online. If you are enrolled in online classes, I promise you are receiving the same care and attentiveness as a student in any of our classrooms.”

Ohio University has consistently taken an innovative approach to its online education programs, which became especially necessary during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is ranked first in the state of Ohio by Online Education, and its individual online programs continuously receive accolades by publications across the country.
