CHSP and Voinovich partner to provide training to health centers

The College of Health Sciences and Professions/OHIO Alliance for Population Health and Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Service have teamed up to provide leadership training and professional development to the Ohio Association of Community Health Centers. New and emerging health center leaders come together from across the state in virtual and classroom environments.

“This opportunity to work with our partners in the Voinovich Academy and the Ohio Association of Community Health Centers to provide health leaders in our communities the training and resources that they need has been a very rewarding experience for all of us,” said Michal Searls, director of Professional Programs and Partnerships of the Alliance. “The [Ohio Association of Community Health Centers] team is highly invested in their employees, and they recognize the diverse needs of each health center and the communities they serve. The impact of employees from around the state being able to participate together and learn from each other’s experiences will not only make the organization stronger, but each center stronger.”

“Over many years we’ve enjoyed a strong partnership with Ohio University — from precepting OU students in Ohio’s health centers to our common passion for innovative and integrated primary care,” said Randy Runyon, president and CEO of the Ohio Association of Community Health Centers. “The Health Center Emerging Leaders program capitalizes on this collaboration and furthers our commitment to train and retain the next generation of health center leaders.”

“The partnership between [the College of Health Sciences and Professions] and [the Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Service] has combined two great organizations with a focus on building leadership capacity for those serving in our community health centers,” said Jay Johnson, director of the Voinovich Academy. “It’s a great honor and privilege to provide leadership development to those who are on the front lines in serving our communities. Our main goals are to provide tools they can use today and build relationships with their fellow cohort members for tomorrow”.

The nine-course series covers three topics: strength in leadership, effective communication in healthcare, and strategy in leading community health centers. The training series began in July 2022 and will wrap up in December.
