OHIO students asked to complete the outdoor classroom survey

Sustainable Living Hub Coordinator Kyle Butler has a message for all OHIO students.

“Have you ever taken part in a class on the College Green beneath the lovely trees on campus when the weather is great in April or September? Or maybe you haven’t, but you always envisioned this as a part of your college experience," said Butler, who is an associate professor of instruction in the Ohio Program of Intensive English (OPIE) in the College of Arts and Sciences. "Why would we want to restrict teaching and learning to a classroom when we have such a lovely, tree-shaded campus?"

As the Sustainable Living Hub Coordinator for the Office of Sustainability, Butler wants to help take teaching and learning at OHIO outside of the classroom box by:

  • Promoting the outdoor teaching we are already doing.
  • Provisioning popular spaces for holding classes outdoors.
  • Building a fully equipped outdoor classroom on the Athens campus.

In order to help with this effort, Butler is asking all OHIO students to complete this quick survey.

Even if you have never taken a class outside, your input is valuable to this effort. If you have any questions, please contact Butler at butlerk@ohio.edu or on Teams.
