Honors Tutorials and Thesis
Students complete eight honors tutorials, including two senior-level tutorials devoted to the honors thesis. Tutorials are conducted in a one-on-one or small-group format and emphasize advanced study, research, and applied learning under the guidance of faculty mentors.
Tutorial experiences may include basic and applied research, clinical exposure, and community health and wellness initiatives in collaboration with Exercise Physiology, Nutrition, Biomedical Sciences, and other health-related programs at Ohio University. With approval from the Director of Studies, students may also incorporate internships or domestic and international clinical or research experiences.
The honors thesis is a substantial research project or applied health program reflecting the student’s academic and professional interests. Students are expected to conduct original research of high quality and to disseminate their findings through presentation at a local, regional, or national professional conference and/or submission to a peer-reviewed scientific journal. The thesis must be approved by the student’s committee, Director of Studies, and Dean of the Honors Tutorial College.
Research and Experiential Learning
Translational Health students are encouraged to engage in hands-on research and experiential learning throughout the program. Opportunities include laboratory research, clinical and community health experiences, interdisciplinary collaborations, and participation in existing health-related initiatives at Ohio University and in the surrounding community. These experiences are designed to strengthen students’ preparation for graduate study and professional health careers.
