Music Major
The Honors Tutorial College program in Music is designed for exceptional scholar-musicians who seek an intensive, individualized course of study through close collaboration with School of Music faculty. Through tutorials, individual instruction, and ensemble participation, students pursue advance study in music theory, history, performance, composition, or a personalized combination of these areas.
Curriculum
Students must complete a minimum of 120 credit hours, maintain a GPA of 3.5 or higher, and fulfill all university and Honors Tutorial College requirements. The curriculum includes applied study on a primary instrument or voice, upper-division music coursework, ensemble participation, and approved collateral studies outside of music.
Honors Tutorial College students complete one tutorial each semester and enroll in a minimum full-time course load as required by the College.

Honors Tutorial and Thesis
Students complete eight music tutorials over four years. Tutorials in the first two years emphasize musicianship and music history, with greater depth and intensity than standard core courses. Third-year tutorials allow students to pursue specialized interests, while fourth year tutorials focus on the development and completion of the senior honors thesis.
All students complete a substantial, advisor-approved honors thesis under the guidance of a faculty tutor. The thesis reflects the student's scholarly or creative interests and represents sustained, high-quality work at an advanced level.
Career Opportunities
Graduates of the HTC Music program are well prepared for graduate study in music performance, composition, musicology, theory, and related disciplines. Alumni also pursue careers as professional performers, educators, composers, arts administrators, and scholars, as well as roles in interdisciplinary and creative industries that value advanced musical training and independent research skills.
