Media Arts and Studies

The tutorial program in the School of Media Arts and Studies offers an individualized course of study for exceptional students interested in media industries. This program provides students with a broad liberal arts background, a concentration in theory and research, and practical training in all aspects of video production, games and animation, and music production.

Maximum opportunity will be afforded for the student to work at his or her own pace. The tutorial program prepares a student for graduation as well as industry jobs. After graduation, many choose to pursue careers in entertainment or media industries, although some pursue advanced degrees at research institutes.

Program Overview

The School of Media Arts & Studies prepares well-rounded, proactive individuals to think critically, act creatively, and practice ethically in a global media society. Students have exceptional opportunities to focus in an area of specific interest while also taking advantage of a broad-based, liberal arts curriculum that enhances long-term success. The School also provides several media-related student organizations and we strongly encourage participation in internships. These opportunities lead to important connections that foster career advancement. The School of Media Arts and Studies has over 650 undergraduates, and 20 faculty, making it one of the largest programs of its kind in the United States.

Undergraduate students completing degree requirements are awarded a Bachelor of Science in Communication (BSC). Media Arts and Studies offers a major through the Honors Tutorial College for students with outstanding high school records.

Professional Opportunities

The School Media Arts and Studies offers many avenues for students to practice their skills. Independent and class projects, as well as faculty/client-based projects can be obtained through faculty members. Perhaps even more influential is the variety of organizations and opportunities for students to gain practical "real world" experience outside of the classroom.

The School also offers students several immersive industry experiences including a semester in LA, domestic master classes, and studies abroad to Ireland, Spain, Ecuador, and Tokyo.  Tutorial students are expected to seek out extended experiences in our state-of-the-art facilities as well as in these immersive experiences. Internships are available in media industries in all specializations and in a number of locales including New York and Hollywood.
