Physical Therapy Student Activities

Each cohort of Ohio University Physical Therapy students is represented by its own student organization. Throughout their three years on campus, students actively engage in a variety of community outreach and engagement events. The physical therapy students play a key role in participating, supporting, and contributing to their success. Learn about some annual events in which our students are involved!

Sponsored by Athens County Children Services, Kidfest is an annual celebration of children that involves interactive educational learning. PT students provide a booth that offers developmental screenings as well as a wheelchair obstacle course to increase understanding and awareness of those who use wheelchairs.

Wheelchair Rugby

PT students host a quadriplegic rugby tournament to promote awareness and raise money for the Buckeye Blitz, a quad rugby team located in the Columbus area. In 2013, students raised enough money to donate a specially outfitted quad rugby wheelchair to the team. That’s more than $5,000!

Bobcat-TAC

Bobcat-TAC is a consultative clinic that supports Army and Air Force ROTC cadets at Ohio University by promoting injury prevention, management, and performance optimization. Physical Therapy students work directly with cadets to provide movement assessments, individualized exercise plans, and educational resources. Under the supervision of licensed physical therapists, students gain valuable clinical experience in orthopedic and tactical athlete care while helping cadets stay healthy and mission-ready. This collaborative model enhances student learning while serving the unique needs of military-affiliated students.

Parkinson’s Exercise Program (PEP!)

The Parkinson’s Exercise Program at Ohio University is a free, community-based program designed to support individuals living with Parkinson’s disease through guided physical activity. Physical Therapy students play an active role in both the creation and administration of the exercise sessions. Under the close supervision of a licensed physical therapist, students gain hands-on experience while contributing to the health and well-being of participants. This unique partnership not only benefits the community but also enhances student learning through meaningful clinical engagement.
