40 total credits required
The online Master of Science in Nursing - Family Nurse Practitioner (MSN-FNP) degree from Ohio University includes 11 courses for a total of 40 credits. You will also complete clinical practicum experiences in a primary care setting for a minimum of 750 direct care hours. This program is designed to be completed in six semesters on a part-time schedule.
Our curriculum is designed to help you build the specialized skill set you need to provide advanced practice primary care for patients across the lifespan. This CCNE-accredited program trains you to use advanced assessment and diagnostic skills to develop treatment plans through both didactic and clinical performance coursework.
There are three On-campus Intensives (OCI) associated with this program. OCIs are brief visits to a campus that may be required for specific instruction and assessment. These OCIs typically occur at the beginning, middle, and end of your program. The schedule and details will be provided at Orientation and on the Graduate Nursing Knowledge Center.
The On-Campus Pre-Clinical Skills Workshop associated with NRSE 7230 is a 1-2 day on-campus visit in your last class before clinicals to provide instruction and evaluation in preparation for clinical placement.
The On-Campus Clinical Skills Workshop associated with the first and final clinical courses in our APRN programs are 1-2 day on-campus visits to receive track-specific instruction, coaching and assessment to prepare for the advanced practice role.
When you finish the program, you will be prepared to pursue certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner from either the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).
