History
Foster House was built in 1969 and used as a residence hall for students. It was originally known as South Green building number 4.
Israel Foster
Foster House was named in honor of Israel Foster. A native of Athens, OH, he was educated at Ohio University. He was active in sports, president of the state's oratorical association, and business manager of a student publication. He studied law in Columbus and returned to Athens to practice law and serve as the County's attorney. He served three terms in the U. S. Congress and 17 years as commissioner of the U. S. Court of Claims. He was a member of the Ohio University Board of Trustees for 25 years.
