Requirements for Admission to the Full-Time MPA Program
Applicants
are expected to have some
academic training in social sciences, business administration, or public policy. Generally, a minimum
of 24 quarter hours of undergraduate
work
or the equivalent is expected,
although exceptions can be
made for those with coursework
in closely related fields
or with practical political
or administrative experience.
An
overall minimum grade-point
average (GPA) of 3.0 is required
for unconditional admission
into the program. Applicants
with less than a 3.0 overall
g.p.a., who have a 3.0 or
better in political science
or other compensating qualifications
(such as political or administrative
experience and training) can
be admitted only on a conditional
basis. Conditionally admitted
students must maintain at
least a B average during the
first 15 hours of coursework
to be retained in the program
and are not eligible for financial
assistance during the time.
In certain cases, an applicant
who lacks the necessary background
may be admitted as a special
non-degree student. Courses
taken in this status do not
count toward the degree but
can be used to provide the
necessary back ground for
admission and to demonstrate
the ability to handle graduate-level
work.
International
students are expected to have
a TOEFL score of at least
550. All international students
are given a language test
upon arrival at Ohio University
and may begin to take regular
academic coursework only after
demonstrating sufficient proficiency.
Language testing, as well
as courses in English for
those who require further
study, is provided by the
Ohio Program of Intensive
English (OPIE).

are especially encouraged.
