Policy

Administrative employees at Ohio University will be hired in accordance with the procedures set forth in this policy.


Procedures


I.   New Appointments

  1. The Chief Human Resource Officer, as the Appointing Authority, shall administer the hiring practices of all administrative appointments and shall review and facilitate all prospective administrative appointment offerings.

  2. New employees of the administration of Ohio University ("administrative employees") are given one year appointments subject to renewal, non-renewal, or termination in accordance with Policies 41.012, "Non-Renewal, Suspension, Demotion, or Termination for Cause of Administrative Appointments," and 41.013, "Reduction in Force of Administrators."

  3. The wages, benefits, terms and conditions of employment for administrative employees shall be governed by university practices, rules, policies, and procedures in effect at the time of hire and as they may be modified or amended from time to time.

  4. Administrative employees will be provided an initial letter of offer and annual letters of reappointment in forms to be approved by University Human Resources ("UHR").

  5. The renewal of an appointment in no way implies any salary increase in any year or successive years.


II.   Special Appointments

Administrative positions dependent upon financial support from sources other than University general operating and auxiliary funds shall be referred to as "Special Appointments."

  1. Special appointees will be given initial letters of offer in a form to be approved by UHR that states that they have "Special Appointments" that are dependent upon outside funding.

  2. Special appointees will be given one year appointments subject to renewal, non-renewal, or termination in accordance with Policies 41.012 and 41.013.

  3. Notwithstanding Policies 41.012 and 41.013, special appointments may be terminated at any time if the outside funding is decreased or eliminated. In this event, special appointees will be given notice of the termination as far in advance of the anticipated termination date as circumstances permit.


III.   Term Appointments

Administrative appointments of a temporary nature without intention of continuing employment shall be referred to as "Term Appointments."

  1. Term appointments are made for specified periods of time, not to exceed twelve months.

  2. Employees appointed to such positions will be given initial letters of offer in a form to be approved by UHR that clearly sets forth the limited term of their appointments. Term appointees will not receive annual reappointment letters.

  3. Term appointments shall not be subject to Policies 41.012 and 41.013.

  4. A term appointment may be terminated prior to the expiration of the term for any reason by giving the employee written notice thirty calendar days prior to the termination date.

  5. Term Appointments for externally funded projects may be extended or renewed in increments not to exceed twelve months. Extensions or renewals of Term Appointments must be approved by the Chief Human Resource Officer.
