Apprentice Program

The apprentice program is designed to meet the operational needs of Ohio University Facilities Management skilled trades shops.

Objectives of the program include the following:

  1. Prepare a broadly skilled, multi-craft workforce capable of meeting future maintenance needs of Ohio University.

  2. Provide career development pathways for bargaining unit staff.

  3. Provide accessible, cost effective learning opportunities that are relevant to job series (e.g., occupational certificate programs).

  4. Provide competency-based learning that aligns classroom experience and on-the-job training with departmental goals and strategic plans.

  5. Employ systematic evaluation to measure the impact of the program on the individual and maintenance operations at the University.

  6. Support a consistent and rigorous emphasis on safety, sustainability, and technology.

  7. Provide for greater diversity in the workforce.
