Student Employment Eligibility

Eligibility for Student Hourly Employment

In order to be eligible for student employment at Ohio University, student must meet the following requirements:

  • Comply with the Immigration Control and Reform Act of 1986 by completing a valid I-9 form within 72 hours of the start date of employment.
  • Be enrolled for classes at Ohio University, Hocking College, another post-secondary education institution, or a secondary school during the current semester, immediate previous semester, or immediate upcoming semester.
  • Non-Ohio University students must provide verification of student status to the hiring department.

Additional eligibility restrictions apply for Federal Work Study and PACE positions. Refer to section on Types of Student Employment for additional information.

Graduating students are eligible to continue working with the following limitations:

Student Work Hour Limit

Student employees (without graduate appointments, or F or J visas) are permitted to work for the university as follows:

  • Fall and spring semester: up to 25 hours per week
  • Summer semester and all academic breaks: up to 36 hours per week

Students with graduate appointments that includes a stipend (GA, TA, RA, GRS, and RD) or with F and J visas, are permitted to work for the university as follows:

  • Fall and spring semester: up to 20 hours per week (per federal guidelines)
  • Summer semester:  student with a graduate appointment that includes ONLY a tuition scholarship may work up to 36 hours per week

Types of Student Employment

Student Hourly Employment

Students who are not eligible for Federal Work Study or PACE, and are still interested in working on campus, should explore the opportunities of Student Hourly Employment (SHE). SHE jobs are university positions available to all students who are currently enrolled as a student. There is no financial need or grade point average requirement. SHE employers will arrange work hours based on need and the students' academic schedules.

Federal Work Study

Federally Work Study is a funded aid program that provides positions to qualifying Ohio University students. Eligibility for this program is based on the results of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). PACE (Program to Aid Career Exploration)

The Program to Aid Career Exploration (PACE) is an on-campus, internship-like work program is unique to Ohio University. Eligibility for this program is determined by completing the online PACE application. There are credit hour, GPA, and financial need requirements.
