Undergraduate Research Opportunities
Funded Research
In their grants, Civil Engineering faculty often include dollar amounts for undergraduate students - both for the valuable contributions these students make to the research effort and to give these students research work experience, better preparing them for graduate school and other opportunities.
Stocker Undergraduate Intern Program
Every spring, the Russ College of Engineering and Technology requests undergraduate research project proposals for funding under the Stocker Undergraduate Intern Program. With the help of a faculty advisor, any student may develop and submit a proposal. The college seeks proposals with novel ideas that seem likely candidates for external funding in the future. The Dean and Associate Deans of the college select proposals for funding based on merit and college priorities.
CE Undergraduate Research Experience
In CE 499, CE Undergraduate Research Experience, each student participates in an independent and orginal laboratory research project under the close supervision of a faculty advisor. This entails familiarization with relevant civil engineering literature, laboratory work, preparation of a report, and presentation of a departmental seminar. This course counts as one of the student's technical electives in Civil Engineering. To qualify for this course, the student must have at least a 3.0 average. To enroll in this course, the student must work with the advisor to prepare a research proposal, which must be accepted prior to the quarter in which the student will take the course.
The Voinovich Center Undergraduate Research Scholars Program
