Why do you want to be an OHIO First Scholars Advocate?
I remember feeling excited and proud and lost all at the same time when I first came to school, and I didn't really have anyone to talk to about it. I got a tough love response from my mom, "Oh, you're not ready for this, so pack your stuff, I'm coming to get you." — it made me feel like it wasn't okay to talk about being stressed or lonely. I was supposed to just keep my head down and work. She meant well, but it had a lasting effect of keeping me from asking for help, or learning to connect with people and network. So, I want to be there for anyone feeling that way to say, "It's okay to be freaked out a little, we'll get you through this, and you're not alone."
