Ohio University to begin construction on May 6 to develop Chilled Water Plant near South, East Greens

Ohio University will begin construction on its third chilled water plant on Monday, May 6, 2019 near South and East greens in anticipation of increased HVAC needs across campus by 2020.

The chilled water system currently cools many buildings across the Athens campus with two chilled water plants, which are located in Nelson Hall on South Green and near West Campus in the Lausche plant.

The new chiller will be constructed in Lot 50 on the South Green, near the University’s intramural fields. While construction impact is expected to be minimal, a portion of McKinley Avenue will be closed at times over the summer, and an additional partial closure is expected for University Terrace next year. The new chilled water plant should begin operations by April 2020.
