Happy Cybersecurity Awareness Month

Beginning in 2004, the President of the United States and Congress declared the month of October as Cybersecurity Awareness Month.

Each year, this month is dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of cybersecurity. The evergreen theme of all Cybersecurity Awareness months from 2023 forward is “Secure Our World.” This theme, in collaboration with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) cybersecurity awareness program, focuses on daily habits that users can implement to reduce risks to online activities and when interacting with connected devices. 

Over the course of the month of October, Ohio University’s Information Security Office will explore CISA’s Four Easy Ways to Stay Safe Online and expand on this guidance with a series of articles focused on relevant information for our OHIO community members. 

Activities for the month of October include

• Each week throughout the month, the organizers will explore different cybersecurity related themes through a series of newsletter articles featuring topics such as MFA, phishing, upgrading software and devices, and strong passwords.
• Come visit the Information Security Office at the Faculty and Staff Resource Fair on Oct. 14, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. to pick up some swag, ask questions about cybersecurity best practices and get help with updating your MFA authentication methods if needed.
• All OHIO students, faculty and staff are encouraged to participate in this year’s Cybersecurity Awareness Month activities, as we each play an important role in keeping our University’s digital community safe. Stay connected by visiting the OHIO Cybersecurity Awareness Month webpage.
