Ohio University Board of Trustees approves surplus property designations to support future campus priorities
The Ohio University Board of Trustees has approved resolutions designating several University-owned properties as surplus, providing increased flexibility to explore future opportunities that align with the University's long-term strategic priorities and responsible stewardship of its physical assets.
These surplus designations allow the University to explore leasing, partnership, redevelopment or the potential sale of each property. Any future transactions would require additional review and be conducted in accordance with Ohio law. OHIO regularly evaluates its facilities to ensure campus spaces support the University’s evolving academic priorities, student success and responsible financial stewardship.
Trisolini House: Located on East Union Street adjacent to College Green, Trisolini House has supported University operations for many years but is no longer needed in its current capacity. The vacant building would require significant investment to renovate, making it appropriate to evaluate future uses that better serve the University's mission while reducing ongoing operating and maintenance costs.
Kantner Hall: The Board also designated Kantner Hall, located on South College Street, as surplus. As academic programs transition into newer facilities, including Seigfred Hall and the Violet Patton Center for Education and Arts, the building is no longer needed to support the University's academic and space needs. The designation provides flexibility to consider future opportunities that could reduce deferred maintenance costs while creating long-term value for both the University and the Athens community.
Regional Higher Education: In addition to the Athens properties, the Board approved surplus designations for unused, undeveloped land associated with the Chillicothe, Dublin and Lancaster campuses. These actions similarly provide flexibility to evaluate future opportunities that support the University's mission and long-term strategic goals.
