OHIO’s Division of Student Affairs announces leadership transitions

Effective Aug. 18, the Ohio University Division of Student Affairs will undergo several leadership transitions. 

As previously announced, Kathy Fahl will assume the role of interim vice president for student affairs following Lyn Redington's retirement. In addition, Scott Bye will serve as interim dean of students, and Dane Bennett will assume the role of interim assistant dean of students and director of community standards and student responsibility. 

"Both individuals have consistently demonstrated a deep commitment to our students and a passion for creating a supportive and successful student experience. I am confident in their leadership and grateful for their willingness to serve as student advocates while guiding the university through this period of transition," said Fahl. 

Bye brings nearly 15 years of progressive student affairs leadership experience, including extensive expertise in student support, crisis response, student conduct, behavioral intervention, policy development and institutional compliance.

In his current role as assistant dean of students and director of community standards and student responsibility, he has demonstrated sound judgment, collaborative leadership and the ability to effectively navigate complex, high-profile student issues while building strong partnerships across the University and broader community. His deep understanding of Ohio University, commitment to student well-being and success, and proven ability to provide strategic and steady leadership position him well to serve as interim dean of students and ensure continuity, stability and progress for the institution.  

Bennett currently serves as associate director in the Office of Community Standards and Student Responsibility and previously served as interim director from January 2023 to May 2023.

His prior experience leading the office and his extensive knowledge related to complex case adjudication, compliance and supervision have prepared him well for this interim appointment. Bennett's expertise, institutional knowledge and commitment to supporting students make him exceptionally well suited to lead the office during this transition.
