OHIO community invited to grand opening of revitalized Writing Commons
Ohio University students, faculty and staff are invited to celebrate the official grand opening of the revitalized Writing Commons on the Athens Campus on Aug. 25–27, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.
Over the summer, the Writing Commons, which is part of the Academic Achievement Center, underwent a significant transformation with all-new furniture and updated technology. The transformation is designed to create a modern, welcoming environment to better support student writers.
All students, faculty and staff are invited to visit 032 Bromley Hall (facing Union Street) to tour the refreshed center, meet Director David Haugen and the Writing Commons staff, and learn more about the writing consultations, workshops and resources available to all OHIO students.
Throughout the three-day celebration, visitors can enjoy free refreshments and enter drawings for prizes.
Faculty and staff are also encouraged to bring their classes or student groups to the grand opening. If you anticipate bringing a large group, please let the Writing Commons staff know in advance so they can ensure adequate space, staffing and materials for your visit.
To let the staff know you'll be bringing a group or to request additional information, please contact the Writing Commons at writing@ohio.edu.
Visit the Writing Commons throughout the year
The Writing Commons provides free writing assistance to all Ohio University students throughout the year. Undergraduate and graduate students can meet with writing tutors in-person or online, and the tutors provide a wide range of services.
The revitalized Writing Commons also now features a coffee bar, and students are encouraged to use the lobby as gathering space/project space even if they are not meeting with a tutor.
For more information, see the Writing Commons website.
