Ohio University announces partnership with Lakeland Community College

A newly established partnership between Ohio University and Lakeland Community College in Kirtland, Ohio, will expand transfer pathways, increase access to bachelor’s degree completion and strengthen institutional collaboration in greater Cleveland and Northeast Ohio. 

“Ohio University is steadfast in its commitment to building seamless, high-quality transfer pathways that expand opportunity for students across the state,” Ohio University President Lori Stewart Gonzalez said. “Our partnership with Lakeland Community College exemplifies the power of alignment and shared purpose: delivering clear, efficient pathways that reduce time, cost, and uncertainty for students, while strengthening our collective mission to advance student success through collaboration.”

Lakeland students who earn their associate degree through specific programs will now be able to continue their academic journey at Ohio University, completing their bachelor's degrees in the areas of Integrated Healthcare Studies in the College of Health Sciences and Professions, Organizational Studies in University College, Customer Service Leadership in the Patton College of Education, Project Management in the Russ College of Engineering and Technology and Communication in the Scripps College of Communication. This partnership provides a clear, seamless transition, offering pathways to further education and career development.

The partnership represents a significant milestone as Lakeland is one of the final Ohio public community colleges to formalize an agreement with Ohio University, advancing OHIO’s goal of statewide community college alignment. Through the partnership, both institutions will advance their shared priorities around workforce alignment, affordability and efficient credit mobility, helping students reduce time to degree and transition seamlessly into career-relevant bachelor’s degree programs.

The transfer pathways have been carefully developed to ensure a seamless process for students, outlining each step needed to successfully transition from Lakeland to Ohio University. Students can transfer both in person and through OHIO Online.
