A few book ideas for you

Here are a few ideas to get you started thinking about books you want to buy. You can see the full list of books here.

"Persevered: A Maternal Mental Health Memoir," by Kara Zivin — "Persevered is one of those rare memoirs that seamlessly blends personal journey and scientific expertise to engage and inspire.”—Ethan Kross, PhD, author of "Shift: Managing Your Emotions—So They Don’t Manage You"

"Traveler’s Guide to Ancient Ohio," by John E. Hancock — Hancock has created several driving tours to the earthworks throughout the southern half of Ohio, including eight UNESCO World Heritage locations. The guide includes scenic routes, interesting towns, natural areas and an intriguing history.

"Rescue Me: An Andy Hayes Mystery," by Andrew Welsh-Huggins — This ninth mystery in a Columbus-based series is a 104-page novella, perfect for a day’s read at the pool or beach.

"Art and Activism: Jazz Artists and Writers in the Civil Rights Vanguard," by Jack Marchbanks — Marchbanks, host of a weekly “Jazz Sunday” program on Columbus radio, fills his book with major musicians, writers and Civil Rights figures, underscoring the engagement of the artists with the social movement during this period.

Children's books

Biographies for Young Readers is a series the Ohio University Press publishes for a middle grade reading audience. The newest book is about Ohio astronaut Judith Resnik; others include beloved illustrator (and Cincinnatian) Charley Harper, renowned author Virginia Hamilton (of Yellow Springs), and baseball great Cy Young (Newcomerstown!).

Picture books in the list include "If You’re Angry and You Know It, Go Outside: Tools to Cool Off Hot Feelings," as well as "When Grandma Gatewood Took a Hike," "Little Otter Learns to Swim," and "Under Ohio: The Story of Ohio’s Rocks and Fossils."
