Help OIT identify legitimate emails from ohio.edu addresses
The Ohio University Office of Information Technology (OIT) is increasing the sensitivity of its email filters to proactively identity and remove scam emails.
OIT is now asking for your help to ensure valid emails from ohio.edu addresses don’t get incorrectly marked as phishing attempts.
How you can help
If you see any legitimate emails that have [External] in the subject line and come from an ohio.edu address, please forward the email to servicedesk@ohio.edu with the subject line “Valid OHIO email.”
Additionally, if your department partners with a third-party vendor to send emails from ohio.edu email addresses, and these emails are showing as [External] in the subject line, please follow the process outlined above. This will help OIT mark the senders as authentic.
After June 15, 2026, these types of emails will not be delivered, unless OIT has been notified of the sender’s legitimacy.
