Ohio University now accepting applications for Student Trustee

The Student Trustee role offers a unique opportunity for Ohio University students to represent the voice of the student body at the highest level of University governance.

Student Trustees serve on Ohio University’s Board of Trustees, the institution’s ultimate decision-making body, and play a critical role in ensuring student perspectives are considered in Board deliberations.

The Board of Trustees is responsible for safeguarding the mission, values, and long-term interests of Ohio University while remaining accountable to the public interest. The Board is composed of nine voting members appointed by the Governor of Ohio, along with ex-officio National Trustees, a representative from the Alumni Association Board, and two ex-officio Student Trustees.

Student Trustees are appointed by the Governor from a slate of five candidates recommended through a process administered by Ohio University Student Senate.

Student Trustees serve staggered two-year terms and are charged with both representing student viewpoints during Board meetings and communicating Board perspectives back to the student population. In addition to attending meetings of the Board of Trustees, Student Trustees also serve on the boards of Student Legal Services and the Budget Planning Council.

To be eligible for the Student Trustee position, applicants must be permanent residents of the state of Ohio and have at least two years remaining at Ohio University. Applications are open to eligible students across campus.

The application deadline is Jan. 30 at midnight. Students interested in applying are encouraged to review the role expectations and eligibility requirements carefully.

For additional information about the Board of Trustees, visit the Board’s website. Questions regarding the application or selection process may be directed to Senate@ohio.edu.
