Charles 'Chip' Linscott named director of the J. Warren McClure School of Emerging Communication Technologies

Charles “Chip” Linscott has been named the director of the J. Warren McClure School of Emerging Communication Technologies (ECT), effective July 1. Linscott is an assistant professor who previously served as the assistant director for undergraduate studies in the school.

In 2019, Linscott joined the McClure School of Emerging Technologies. His focus is within the field of audio and he served as the audio director for the Game Research and Immersive Design (GRID) Lab. He also helped develop a curriculum for those interested in virtual reality (VR), especially for those interested in the audio aspect of VR.

“Chip Linscott has amassed a distinctive record as a teacher, researcher, and administrator,” said Scott Titsworth, dean of the Scripps College of Communication. “I am excited to work with him in this new capacity. Chip has significant expertise in spatial audio.  That expertise is extremely important as Scripps College of Communication continues to be a leader in virtual and augmented reality.”

Linscott received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of West Florida and his doctoral degree from Ohio University.

“I am thrilled to be moving into this expanded role in the McClure School,” Linscott said. “ECT is such a dynamic and inspiring place, and the support of my colleagues and the Dean has been invaluable. There are tons of opportunities in emerging technology fields, and our school and Scripps College are ready for them.”

He is assuming the role previously held by Julio Arauz, outgoing ECT director.

“I want to thank Julio for his outstanding work as director. He was tireless in his pursuit of new opportunities for ECT,” said Titsworth. “Julio possesses a unique combination of vision, strong advocacy, collaboration, and ‘get it done’ spirit that made ECT one of the most visionary schools at Ohio University.”
