Fall Grad Spotlight: Cathy Morris

Cathy Morris, of Chesapeake, Ohio, is graduating from Ohio University with an Associate in Applied Science in Nursing, but she’s not stopping yet. She plans to secure a job working in the field and earn her Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

What inspired you to return to school? Why was it important to you to get your degree?
I started this journey 20 years ago, but life happens and as a single parent, I really needed to focus on providing for my son, so my education was put off. My son graduated from the nursing program at OHIO Southern in 2019 and pretty much "bullied" me to finish my degree because I promised him that I would. The truth is, this has been my goal for as long as I can remember. I wouldn't have done it if it wasn't for him.

How does your family feel about you returning to school and getting your degree?
My family is so proud of me (even at my age) and the staff at OHIO Southern have been very supportive.

How has your experience been at OHIO Southern? Would you recommend it to other non-traditional students like yourself and why?
Ohio University Southern is affordable and close to home. I would recommend it to everyone. You are never too old to pursue your dreams. It has been tough but so worth it!

Who were your favorite professors and how did they make an impact on your life?
All my professors have been wonderful and inspiring.

What are your favorite OHIO memories?
The friends I have made along the way.
