OHIO students encouraged to donate unwanted items while moving out Spring 2021

Ohio University wants to remind members of the Bobcat family that MoveOUt is part of the biggest donation drive in Southeast Ohio.

Ohio University, the City of Athens and multiple non-profit organizations are coordinating efforts to make it as easy as possible for students to donate food, clothes, gently used furniture and more.

On-Campus Students: Ohio University MoveOUt donation collection has already begun and will continue from Monday, April 19 through Sunday, May 2 for on-campus. Donation locations are provided by Campus Recycling for every campus residence hall, except isolation and quarantine dorms for 2021.

Follow the signs for furniture, clothes, carpet and all donation items. Food drive collection bins are already in place in the lobbies of most residence halls and by the back doors on Old South; students are encouraged to drop off nonperishable, unopened food items instead of throwing them out.

Off-Campus Students:

The following local organizations are accepting a variety of donations, and some will be scheduling pickups in Athens. If a student is unsure if an item will be accepted, they are encouraged to reach out through the listed contacts.

Select donation drop off sites will be provided by area non-profits the weekend of April 30 and May 1 across the Athens community. For more information about accepted items and locations, please visit ohio.edu/recycle.

Confirmed drop-off locations will include:

  • Christ Lutheran Church: 69 Mill St., Athens
  • Southeast Ohio History Center: 24 W. State St., Athens
  • KleinPenny apartments on Fern Alley between Court Street and East State.

Additionally, area thrift stores will be staffed to accept donations, including:
