Graduate students invited to attend National Association of Graduate/Professional Students Midwestern Regional Conference

The Graduate Student Senate at Ohio University and the Graduate Student Congress at the University of Kentucky will virtually co-host the 2021 National Association of Graduate/Professional Students (NAGPS) Midwestern Regional Conference.

Ohio University graduate students are invited to attend the conference, which will be held April 5 to 8.

The purpose of the NAGPS Midwestern Regional Conference is to provide graduate and professional students in the Midwestern region of the United States, along with their affiliate graduate/professional student organizations, the opportunity to meet and interact with one another, while also learning about and discussing important topics related to graduate and professional student education. The purpose of this year’s conference is to give a voice to those graduate and professional students whose hard work and dedication often goes unnoticed and underappreciated at institutions of higher education.

The tentative schedule includes:

Monday, April 5, 2021: Welcome/Networking Session & International Student Panel
Tuesday, April 6, 2021: Graduate Teaching Assistants & Keynote Presentation Part I
Wednesday, April 7, 2021: Membership Meeting, Research Assistants & Keynote Presentation Part II
Thursday, April 8, 2021: Biomedical & Professional Students, Working Students & Closing Remarks

“I am excited to highlight all the hard work that graduate and professional students put into graduate school and have a conversation with experts about the graduate and professional student experience!” said NAGPS Midwestern Regional Director Hoang Luu. “The COVID-19 pandemic has greatly impacted graduate and professional student education, and how we structure graduate school needs to change to better prepare students for a post-pandemic, 21st century environment."

Any graduate or professional students interested in attending one or more of these sessions should fill out this registration form so conference organizers can get an idea of who the organizations are reaching across the country, and to ensure a large enough Zoom license for everyone who wants to attend.

The Graduate Student Congress will also be live streaming these events on Facebook (@ukygsc), so even if interested graduate and professional students cannot attend the live event, they can still view it later at their convenience. More information about the presenters and conference program will be posted to the Graduate Student Congress’ website as it becomes available.

The Graduate Student Senate is one of five shared governance bodies within Ohio University administration and recognized by the Board of Trustees. The purpose of Graduate Student Senate is to act as the official representative body of all graduate and professional students enrolled at Ohio University. It has a history of being a space for graduate and professional students to voice their concerns, as well as a body with the resources and connections to try to do something about them.
