Candace J. Boeninger named Ohio University's Vice President for Enrollment Management

Ohio University President M. Duane Nellis has named Candace J. Boeninger as Ohio University’s Vice President for Enrollment Management. Ms. Boeninger brings more than eighteen years of enrollment and admissions leadership to the role, having most recently served as Interim Vice Provost for Strategic Enrollment Management here at Ohio University. During that time, Ms. Boeninger skillfully led OHIO’s enrollment management organization through massive and constant change as the University responded to the global COVID-19 pandemic, including designing new approaches to scholarships, navigating disbursement of pandemic aid to students, shifting recruitment strategies to virtual formats and much more.

“During this past year, Candace has demonstrated her ability to lead through crisis, to innovate even in the most difficult of circumstances, and to identify and call out with transparency both challenges and opportunities,” President Nellis said. “As we have more challenges ahead, I am confident Candace will continue to bring a spirit of innovation and opportunity to our enrollment management strategies.”

Ms. Boeninger will serve as OHIO’s first Vice President for Enrollment Management, reporting directly to the President with a dotted line to Executive Vice President and Provost Elizabeth Sayrs in order to facilitate close alignment between university strategic priorities, enrollment and academic planning.

Prior to Ms. Boeninger’s interim appointment, she assumed the role of Associate Vice Provost for Strategic Enrollment Management and Director of Undergraduate Admissions for OHIO in January 2017. Having led the Undergraduate Admissions office at OHIO since 2010, Ms. Boeninger oversaw recruitment of the largest, most diverse, and most academically qualified first-year classes in OHIO’s history. Highly regarded within the enrollment profession, she has served in positions of leadership for admissions organizations in Ohio and nationally. From 2015-2018, Ms. Boeninger served in the presidential cycle of the Ohio Association for College Admission Counseling. Additionally, she has served as a faculty member for the Admissions Middle Management Institute of the National Association for College Admission Counseling.

“In addition to being a nationally well-respected and accomplished leader in her field, Candace understands this University and where we are headed,” Provost Sayrs said. “She is deeply committed to our mission to serve all students and ensure their success to and through graduation. She knows that the job of enrollment management is not just about ensuring the University’s success, but as importantly, it is about helping students see and believe in the lifelong value of a university education.”

Ms. Boeninger was selected following a national search with input from a 19-member search committee of faculty, staff and students. She will move into the Vice President role, effective immediately.

“I am honored and humbled to assume this important role at OHIO,” Ms. Boeninger said. “I look forward to leading the talented team in the enrollment management division and to working with the entire University community to establish a fresh vision for enrollment strategy, one that meaningfully aligns our goals, synchronizes our efforts, and builds sustainable, diverse enrollment pipelines that help OHIO deliver on our mission.”

Ms. Boeninger holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and Spanish from Samford University and a Master of Arts in English from the University of Tennessee.
