An updated message regarding student parties and similar gatherings

The State Health Director recently extended her statewide “stay at home” order to May 1. Among other restrictions, the directive prohibits gatherings of more than 10 people and limits travel outside your place of residence to certain essential activities or exercise. As has been communicated previously, most social gatherings violate at least one, if not both, of these provisions. Students remaining in Athens should be aware that the City of Athens and Ohio University are strictly enforcing these orders and violations will result in action by law enforcement, including possible criminal charges. Several people have been criminally charged already. In addition, the University will take disciplinary action for such violations, which could include suspension. Ohio University expects students to practice safe physical distancing by staying home and making no attempt to gather in groups of ten or more. Instead of gathering in person, students are encouraged to consider these virtual activities and thereby protect themselves and others from the spread of COVID-19.
