Ohio University Foundation receives AT&T grant to support communication-related careers

AT&T Aspire has awarded The Ohio University Foundation an AT&T Foundation grant in order to continue supporting the Career Paths in Digital Literacy Program that offers experiential learning activities, mentoring relationships and field trips with the goal of preparing underserved high school students for communications-related careers. 

"We're excited about the work we'll be doing with this new funding, connecting students in our area to the opportunities available in the field of communication,” Scripps College of Communication Dean Scott Titsworth said. “AT&T has a history of supporting our college's innovation initiatives, and this continuing relationship will allow us to have an even greater impact in our surrounding community while advancing our agenda of innovating local, multimedia content."

The $15,000 grant will help the Scripps College of Communication with outreach to regional high schools to encourage students to pursue communication-related careers. The college currently has existing initiatives that involve faculty and staff visiting area high schools to do presentations and trainings.

The Scripps College also offers a Communication Fellows program for PK-12 teachers in the state of Ohio where up to 10 teachers are selected to partake in a program that provides professional development, mentorship and networking opportunities specifically designed to bolster innovation in communication education.

The AT&T Aspire grant was created in response to growth in technology, media, and telecommunications and to provide continuous learning to acquire new skills that are needed to drive innovation across the AT&T company. By investing in education, the initiative helps provide access to training young people to get and keep good jobs.
