OHIO to celebrate Earth Day throughout April

Ohio University’s Office of Sustainability and Voinovich Zero Waste Initiative will be holding a special virtual recognition of the 50th anniversary of Earth Day on April 22. 

In addition, the OHIO Earth Day Celebrations are being expanded to an entire month of virtually showcasing sustainability initiatives across OHIO’s campuses and the surrounding Athens area.

Join the celebrations every day in April on social media (@OHIOsustainable  and @OHIOzerowaste  #OHIOearthday) and online for sustainability tips, activities, how-to videos, webinars, photos of spring arriving in Southeast Ohio, and more!

On April 22, follow @OHIOsustainable and @OHIOzerowaste all day as we look back to the first Earth Day in 1970 and celebrate sustainability initiatives in 2020 with online events including:

Sustainability Awards Announcement

The Sustainability Awards are given to individuals and organizations nominated by their peers. The awards are separated into five categories: Faculty Sustainability Award, Student Sustainability Leader(s) Award, Staff Sustainability Advocate Award, Exemplary Sustainable Department Award and Community Sustainability Recognition.  Join us for a special announcement of the 2020 Award Winners!

Arbor Day Celebration

Learn about trees on campus both on April 22 and on April 23 during the Sustainable Living Hub Virtual Seminar. Celebrate the Arbor Day Foundation’s designation of Ohio University as a Tree Campus USA awardee for the third straight year!

Relaxing Yoga
Join campus and community members by participating in a fun and relaxing twist on yoga in the comfort of your own home or yard. Yoga instructors will virtually lead mini-sessions of peace and tranquility that truly "bring us back to Earth."

OHIO Earth Day Parade

Relive the 2019 OHIO Earth Day Parade through a video made by graduate student Vicky Kent. See the Passion Works Honey for the Heart costumes, hear the noise makers, virtually walk with Rufus, The Bag Monster, and Pawpaw as paraders march through campus and Athens to show their excitement for Earth Day!

Electric Vehicle Showcase

Join us online to learn about electric-drive technologies, including electric automobiles, motorcycles, bicycles and scooters, and to find information about our local EV Cruisers Club. 

ReBike Program

The annual ReBike Program sale of salvaged, affordable used bicycles will not be held this semester.  Watch our Social Media for information about ReBike, including a possible sale to be organized early in the Fall.
