University Community

Learning and connecting beyond the classroom

Since the suspension of in-person instruction amid the global pandemic, Ohio University College of Business Assistant Professor and Director of the Center for Consumer Research & Analytics Dr. Jacob Hiler has been using technology to engage with students beyond the classroom.

Dr. Hiler is not only continuing to deliver course content remotely using traditional platforms, but he is also simulating the full in-person classroom experience using several unique platforms that are typically used for gaming, such as Discord. The platform allows for online "rooms" to be set up that support group collaboration, teamwork and virtual spaces to meet about courses, projects and client presentations.

Dr. Hiler has also hosted student game nights and watch parties to foster a sense of community among his students.
