Ohio University is featured in the November 2019 issue of INSIGHT Into Diversity Magazine, the oldest and largest diversity-focused publication in higher education, after being selected for the magazine’s 2019 Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award. This is the second consecutive year OHIO has received this honor.

The November issue will be published Friday, Nov. 1 and is available online as of Thursday, Oct. 31. OHIO is featured on page 85 of the publication, welcoming all genders, colors, religions, nationalities, backgrounds and people.

In total, 94 recipients are featured in the magazine. Ohio University was selected for the HEED Award for the broad array of initiatives on campus designed to help students know they have a place at OHIO. These include programs such as the Diversity Leadership Ambassador Program and the Diverse Junior Faculty Mentoring Program, programming that highlights the voices of people of diverse backgrounds, including gender, race, LGBTQ+ identity or religious and spiritual beliefs, and many other issues.

About the HEED AwardThe INSIGHT Into Diversity HEED Award, open to all colleges and universities across the U.S. and Canada, measures an institution’s level of achievement and intensity of commitment in regard to broadening diversity and inclusion on campus through initiatives, programs, and outreach; student recruitment, retention, and completion; and hiring practices for faculty and staff.

Applications are comprehensive, covering all aspects of campus diversity and inclusion. One of the goals of the application process is to help institutions of higher education assess their diversity efforts in order to build on their success and improve where necessary.
