Green Jacket volunteers needed for Oct. 26 Halloween street party

Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration Deborah J. Shaffer sent this message to Athens Campus faculty and staff on Sept. 27, 2019.

Dear Colleagues,

This year’s City of Athens Halloween street party is Saturday, Oct. 26, 2019.

In an effort to keep Ohio University and surrounding areas safe, the University utilizes a program known as “Green Jackets.” This program was created to provide an additional presence on and around campus during this celebration.

Please consider volunteering to be a Green Jacket. Each pair or group of volunteers walks designated areas equipped with a flashlight, a two-way radio, and a clearly marked Ohio University staff jacket. A Green Jacket’s role is 1) provide a positive community presence, 2) verify the security of entryways to on-campus buildings, and 3) to serve as a conduit to public safety officials when necessary.

The Green Jacket shift is 6 to 11 p.m.; food and beverages will be provided during breaks, and volunteers will receive $50 in Bobcat Cash.

Typically, 60-80 Green Jacket volunteers cover the campus and near campus areas on Saturday evening. If interested, please contact Jill Harris at harrisj4@ohio.edu no later than Wednesday, Oct. 9.

Thank you for considering this request; the work of Green Jacket volunteers is important to maintaining the safety and security of our campus community.

Sincerely,

Deborah J. Shaffer
Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration
