University to host budget forums for faculty, staff

The following message was sent to Ohio University faculty and staff on Friday, Feb. 9, 2018.

Dear colleagues:

The purpose of this communication is to announce opportunities for faculty and staff to participate in open forums about the university’s budget decision-making process.

The open forums build upon the momentum achieved during Dr. Nellis’ Breakfast for Progress sessions on November 29, 2017 and, more recently, January 31, 2018, where leaders from across the institution came together to discuss efforts to ensure a sustainable financial future.

The open forums are an opportunity for all OHIO employees to learn about our budget process and be able to ask questions. The open forums will be sponsored by President Nellis, Interim Provost and Executive Vice President Elizabeth Sayrs, and Vice President for Finance & Administration Deb Shaffer. The following three sessions are available for faculty and staff to attend:

  • Monday, February 26 from 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m., Walter Hall, Room 235
  • Tuesday, February 27 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Morton Hall, Room 237
  • Thursday, March 1 from 3:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m., Clippinger Laboratory, Room 194

The first half of each session will be a presentation from Deb Shaffer and John Day, Associate Provost for Academic Budget & Planning, and the second half will be open for your questions and answers.

We encourage you to attend one – or all – of these sessions, or to participate via an online broadcast (online access details will be provided closer to the forum dates). It's important that we provide you the opportunity to become better informed about the University budget, understand the fiscal challenges that we face, and answer your questions.

If you are not able to attend one of the sessions, the presentation will be made available after the conclusion of the series.

Best regards,

M. Duane Nellis, Ph.D.
President

Elizabeth P. Sayrs, Ph.D.
Interim Executive Vice President and Provost

Deborah J. Shaffer
Vice President for Finance and Administration
