University community notified of temporary closure to portion of East State St. and alternate travel routes

The following message regarding the temporary closure of a portion of East State St. was shared with the Ohio University community on Monday, August 13.


Dear Students, Faculty, Staff and Visitors of Ohio University:

As a courtesy to the campus community, we are reaching out to notify you of a road closure that may impact your travels to and from the Athens campus beginning today.

The City of Athens will be closing a portion of E. State Street between N. College and Fern Street due to water line replacement and estimates that the road will be closed from now until Friday, August 24, 2018. The map pictured below highlights the impacted area (Click the map to enlarge).

East State St. Closure Details




















 

 


Additional Details:

  • Emergency access and local traffic from Lash Street will be maintained in the east parking lane with flaggers as needed.
  • East bound traffic is anticipated to be restored on or before Friday, August 24.
  • The west bound lane will remain closed until approximately Thursday, September 13 for street and curb/sidewalk replacement.


Students, faculty, staff and visitors to the Athens campus may want to consider alternative routes.

Those coming into town/campus from US 33 to Stimson:

  • Utilize N Congress Street or route around campus through S Green Drive


Those coming through campus to East State Street:

  • Main campus entrance (33 to Richland Ave), utilize S. Green Drive or for Uptown locations utilize Court Street to Carpenter
  • A reminder that E. Union Street is open to two-way traffic.
