Message from Board Chair David A. Wolfort and President Roderick J. McDavis

The following message was sent to the Ohio University community on Friday, Dec. 9, 2016, by President Roderick J. McDavis and Board of Trustees Chair David A. Wolfort.

Message from President McDavis

Dear Bobcat family,

It is with mixed emotions that I write to you today to share some very important news: I have formally accepted the position of Managing Principal and Chief Executive Officer of AGB Search. This opportunity came forward faster than I expected and Deborah and I did not feel it was a position I could turn down. Serving as president of my alma mater has been my life’s greatest achievement and it is with a heavy heart that I accept the reality of leaving.

My first priority is the stability of Ohio University. I will continue to work with the Board of Trustees as we move through this transitional phase. I still remain committed to Ohio University and my future employer understands and supports my commitment to ensuring there is stability in leadership before I depart.

I feel blessed to have such a wonderful and supportive community of faculty, staff and students who all possess the same goal of making Ohio University the nation’s best transformative learning community. There will still be plenty of time to say good-bye as my final day as president will be Friday, February 17, 2017.

Again, thank you for your support. I look forward the memories we will make in these final months together.

Message from Chair Wolfort

Dear Ohio University Community,

On behalf of the Board of Trustees I want to acknowledge President McDavis’ recent communication to our entire Bobcat family. This morning Dr. McDavis formally notified all of us of his intentions to leave Ohio University earlier than originally planned. President McDavis will be joining AGB Search as Managing Principal and Chief Executive Officer. We are confident that Dr. McDavis will apply the same passion and focus to this new position as he has to Ohio University.

Throughout his interview process President McDavis has kept Vice Chair King and myself informed and we have kept the entire Board of Trustees apprised of the situation. President McDavis has assured us that his early departure will not disrupt the university’s smooth transition to new leadership.

The Board of Trustees has been well prepared for this development; we will assign an interim president at the January Board of Trustees Meeting. I foresee no changes in our search timetable and look forward to the inauguration of the twenty-first president of Ohio University.

On behalf of the Board of Trustees we wish Dr. McDavis and Mrs. McDavis the very best and thank them for their many years of service and commitment to Ohio University.
