McDavises host their final fall employee appreciation event [VIDEO]

Ohio University President Roderick J. McDavis and first lady Deborah A. McDavis hosted their final Fall Employee Appreciation Reception on Wednesday, Dec. 7, in the Baker University Center Ballroom.

In the spring, the couple announced that the 2016-17 academic year will be their last one.

The hundreds of employees who attended the two-hour event enjoyed live music and free hors d'oeuvres. President McDavis spoke briefly to the crowd around noon.

"Deborah and I have had the opportunity to serve for 13 years, and this being the last time that we’ll have the opportunity to say thank you is kind of special," McDavis said. "One of the things we’ve observed at Ohio University is that it truly is a family atmosphere. We are a family oriented community and a family oriented university and that’s what makes working here absolutely special."

President McDavis talked about the importance of unity on campus.

"One thing I want you to keep in mind is that the person sitting next to you or across from you is what Ohio University is all about," McDavis said. "The better we are together, the better the community becomes. From the bottom of my heart, I can’t say it enough. Thank you for all that you have done, all that you are doing and thank you for all that you will do."
