Keynote speech to feature award-winning author and journalist Eric Weiner

Ohio University’s International Education Week (IEW) Committee has announced its keynote speaker for the November 2017 celebration and has now made it easier for campus organizations to submit their events for the week.

IEW 2017 will be held Nov. 13-17 and will feature numerous activities focused on the importance of international education, including the annual Global Engagement Awards Gala and the keynote speech.

This year’s keynote speech will be delivered by Eric Weiner, author of The New York Times bestseller “The Geography of Bliss,” as well as two other popular books, “The Geography of Genius” and “Man Seeks God.”

“The Geography of Bliss” has been translated into 20 languages and has been incorporated into the curricula at numerous high schools and universities.

A longtime foreign correspondent for National Public Radio (NPR), Weiner reported from more than 30 nations covering some of the major international events of recent times. He is the recipient of several journalism awards, including the Angel Award for coverage of Islamic affairs in Asia.

Weiner writes a regular column for BBC Travel, and his work also appears in The Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post and other publications. The Washington, D.C. resident is also a popular speaker and lecturer, and Ohio University is proud to have him serving as the keynote speaker for the 2017 International Education Week.

The keynote speech will be held on Thursday, Nov. 16, in the Baker University Center Ballroom.

The 2016 keynote speech featured award-winning playwright and author Wajahat Ali. For more information on that speech, please click here.

Each year, IEW features a wide range of events organized by the IEW Committee and by campus organizations. The committee members have made it easier for campus organizations to submit events to the IEW calendar this year, and information and event submission forms can be found at www.ohio.edu/iew

The IEW Committee is also still accepting nominations for the annual Awards for Excellence in Global Engagement.

The awards recognize faculty, staff, and alumni (including former students, faculty members and staff) for their outstanding contributions to international education, global competency, cultural understanding and/or international programs at Ohio University or in their fields or disciplines.
