Trustees announce presidential search committee, launch website

President McDavis to step down June 30, 2017

The Board of Trustees announced today the names of the 21-person search committee charged with finding Ohio University’s 21st president. The presidential search committee will thoroughly review potential candidates and select a small set of well-qualified individuals for the Board’s consideration.

The search committee members were recommended to the Board by the search subcommittee following its open meeting June 7 in Dublin, Ohio. The search subcommittee is comprised of five trustees who were appointed at the March Board meeting. Prior to selecting the members, the subcommittee consulted with faculty, students, staff, regional campus representatives, Athens community members, alumni, administrators, and all university senate leadership representatives.

“The Board was focused on appointing a search committee that reflects our diverse community of faculty, staff, students and alumni – individuals who represent Ohio University and our community. We put a great deal of thought into the selection of these 21 individuals,” Trustee Chair David A. Wolfort said. “This is an historic and exciting time for OHIO! Only 20 times in 212 years has something of this magnitude occurred. We want to make sure everyone has a voice in this process and I feel pleased with the committee we created.”

Additionally, the Board announced that search firm Witt Kieffer has been selected to assist the search committee. After a contract has been finalized by the Office of Procure to Pay Services, the search firm will work with the search committee to conduct the search.

The search committee will recommend candidates to the Board, which will then determine which finalists to invite to visit campus. During these campus visits, open forums with the finalists will be part of the on-campus vetting process and members of the university community will be invited and encouraged to attend.

The Board of Trustees also announced the formation of a presidential search website where the search committee members’ names and bios can be found. The website, which details the phases of the search process, will be frequently updated as the process progresses.

“We created this website because we know our students, faculty, staff and alumni all want to remain informed as we search for our 21st president,” Chair Wolfort said. “Additionally, this site will serve as a recruiting tool for potential candidates.”

Current President Roderick J. McDavis announced in March that he will step down at the end of his contract June 30, 2017.
