Annual OhioHealth O’Bleness Hospital Race for a Reason is April 25

The Ohio University Center for Sports Administration and Athletes in Action would like to announce that the fourth annual OhioHealth O’Bleness Hospital Race for a Reason, Saturday, April 25, in Peden Stadium.

OhioHealth O’Bleness Hospital Race for a Reason has become the largest single-day charity event in southeast Ohio. Each participant designates a personal cause and uses the event as a platform to reach his or her own fundraising goal.

“We are excited about the possibilities for this year’s event. Last year, teams raised more than $118,000 to benefit more than 100 charities, non-profit and student organizations,” said Brent Culver, graduate student and race director. “We are committed to exceeding last year’s goals and making an even greater positive impact on the community.”

“We are proud to be the marquis sponsor for this event," said Sydney Webber, director of marketing and communication for OhioHealth O’Bleness Hospital. "Race for a Reason is a win-win for all the participants, because they get to enjoy some exercise and camaraderie while they’re helping a good cause.”

Getting involved is easy and participants can follow three steps to start fundraising for their cause.

1.   Choose a Race
Run as an individual or with a student organization in one of five unique races:
•   35th Annual OU HCOM 5K Medicine Run presented by Quidel: A 5K run that will be starting and ending at Peden Stadium.
•   Rocky Military Mud Run powered by OU ROTC: A challenging and non-traditional run starting in Peden Stadium, heading up to the Army ROTC Training course at The Ridges, through mud pits and obstacles, and finishing through a slip-n-slide back at Peden Stadium.
•   Athletes in Action Triathlon presented by the College of Health Sciences and Professions: A short sprint format that begins at the Ohio University Aquatic Center, heading out of town on a challenging bike course before returning to campus to complete a 5K run and finish at Peden Stadium.
•   AMVETS 3K Diabetes Walk presented by HUMANA: A 3K walk that begins and ends in Peden Stadium, taking participants down the Hockhocking Adena Bikeway towards OhioHealth O’Bleness Hospital.

This year we are also offering the Virtual Runner, where participants can run and raise money from the comfort of your own home.

Plan your own physical activity at home on April 25 and raise money virtually.

2.   Choose a Reason
Select a charity, non-profit organization, or cause and set a goal to raise money for that reason through pledges and donations.

3.   Begin Fundraising
Reach out to family and friends for pledges to reach your goal. Any participant who registers will have a portion of their registration fee automatically donated to the charity of their choice.
