PassionWorks to join Race for a Reason for the first time

Passion Works, an Athens-based organization that supports collaborations between artists with and without developmental disabilities, will debut in the O’Bleness Health System Race for a Reason this year in an effort to raise money for the local art studio.

Since 1998, PassionWorks’ studio has created one-of-a-kind art pieces and transformed them into items such as jewelry, ornaments, flowers and greeting cards. The production of artwork creates jobs for people with and without developmental disabilities and generates a renewable funding stream to continue arts programming.

The largest charity-based race event in Athens, the O’Bleness Health Systems Race for a Reason will be held April 27. A joint venture between Ohio University Athletes in Action and The Center for Sports Administration, the event allows individuals to raise funds for the charity of their choice.

Wayne Savage, Passion Works’ studio coordinator, has been working with the Race for a Reason team to raise awareness for Passion Works in the Athens community while Paige Elmlinger, an Ohio University student intern with the program, works to raise awareness among Ohio University students.

Dedicated to its arts programming, Passion Works is looking to raise money for their organization and more importantly, for the artists that make it all possible. The Passion Works team truly believes that creativity is an innate part of all people and that art enhances the quality of life and strengthens communities.
