Financial Aid

The School offers financial assistance in the form of:

  • Graduate (or teaching) Assistantships
  • Tuition Scholarships

Both Graduate Assistantships and Tuition Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis. Indicate the types of financial aid for which you wish to be considered on the application for admission. To be considered, you should apply by February 15; awards are announced by April 1.

Graduate Assistantships

Graduate Assistantships carry a stipend of about $7,000 for two academic semesters, plus a tuition scholarship for both the academic year and the adjoining summers. Assistants are expected to carry a full load of 12 hours per semester and to perform a variety of tasks, including assisting the faculty in teaching basic courses and undertaking research assignments, for 15 hours per week. Assistantships can be extended if the student is making satisfactory academic progress toward the degree.

Tuition Scholarships

Scholarships covering tuition expenses alone are awarded on the basis of academic ability. Recipients are required to take a full academic load of 15 credit hours per semester and are required to work six hours per week on departmental assignments. Support may be extended beyond one year if the student is making satisfactory academic progress toward the degree.
