Joyce DaviesJoyce Davies, a senior manager in Financial Services at the Voinovich School, worked for 10 years in Accounting at Kent State University and 12 years as the Manager of Grants Accounting at Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine (NEOUCOM) before coming to the School. Her previous employment provided her with many opportunities for professional growth and allowed her to gain a diverse background in Accounting and Grants Administration in a University setting. Leslie Dunn As the Finance Coordinator for Ohio University’s Entrepreneurial Signature Program (TechGROWTH Ohio), Leslie Dunn is the gatekeeper for all expenses flowing through that program and is responsible for its budget. This position was new, so Leslie had to create many of the associated procedures and protocols. Stephanie HoweStephanie Howe is the Associate Director for Human Capital and Operations at the Voinovich School. In this position she is responsible for all organizational operations functions including securing, allocating, and managing fiscal and human resources for the School, ensuring fulfillment of external contract obligations, implementing University policy and interfacing with University offices involved in administering the work of the School. Prior to coming to the Voinovich School, Stephanie worked for private non-profit organizations, including sexual assault/domestic violence advocacy work. Amista LipotAmista Naylor Lipot is the Director of External Relations and Strategic Partnerships, and has been with the Voinovich School since 2003. While managing the Director’s office, her portfolio includes strategic communications, development, alumni relations, strategic partnerships, and special projects. Before joining the School, Amista managed administrators throughout Ohio for an international consulting and software company. She also has extensive experience in sales, marketing, communications and the trade book industry. Cindy StricklandCynthia Strickland joined the Voinovich School in 2005 after eight years in the OU Finance Division. Amy WhitneyAmy Whitney is a grant budget manager at the Voinovich School. Prior to coming here, she worked in the finance division of a private sector manufacturing firm, primarily in accounts receivable and payroll. She specializes in tracking grant expenditures and reconciling numerous complex grant budgets for the Voinovich School. Jennifer BowmanJen Bowman is an environmental project manager at the Voinovich School. She manages the Environmental Management Program involving staff and students focusing on watershed research, performs chemical water quality data analysis, interpretation, and report writing on the various projects as part of the Appalachian Watershed Research Group at Ohio University including: managing restoration work in the Raccoon Creek Watershed, writing the annual water quality and biological recovery report for four watersheds in SE Ohio where acid mine drainage restoration is active, and developing and managing an online database management system for area watershed groups. Gary ConleyGary Conley is a research supervisor at the Voinovich School. He operates the Athens Supersite, a surface air monitoring facility, in cooperation with the Ohio EPA and the USEPA. Gary also is the chairman of the Network Operations Subcommittee and the Joint Subcommittees of the National Atmospheric Desposition Program that remains the largest and most widely cited monitoring network in the world. Saikat Ghosh Saikat Ghosh is a research scientist and database project manager at the Voinovich School. His research focuses on environmental issues, including modeling of air pollutants, meteorological modeling, emissions processing, and other air quality issues. Kyle GumtoKyle Gumto is a research associate at the Voinovich School with a background in environmental research. He recently completed his MS Environmental Studies project titled Green Fleet Vehicle Greenhouse Gas Emission / Fuel Consumption Study for the City of Athens, Ohio. In the study, alternative fuels were explored to reduce fuel costs, reduce GHG emissions, and increase cost savings in diversifying transportation fuels for the City of Athens, Ohio. This project, and others since have exposed him to key players and developments in the expanding alternative and renewable technology industries that will serve as the foundation to diversifying a new clean energy economy. Amy MackeyAmy Mackey is the Raccoon Creek Watershed Coordinator at the Voinovich School. She has a background in fish and wildlife management and worked several related jobs before coming to the Voinovich School. Among these was a natural resources management internship with Geauga Park Districts, where she learned to do primary headwaters assessments, and a position doing fish sampling for Midwest Biodiversity Institute, where she learned to sample fish in streams. All of these skills have been put to use in Amy’s current position in working with the Raccoon Creek Watershed research. Lorine McCosker Loraine McCosker is an advocate for environmental and sustainability education. She has worked with diverse age groups offering educational topics and has worked with the Environmental Studies Program since 2007, creating educational connections related to sustainability with faculty and staff on the Athens and regional campuses. Edward T. Rankin Prior to his time at Ohio University, Mr. Rankin was an Aquatic Ecologist with Ohio Environmental Protection Agency for almost 18 years. Mr. Rankin holds a B.S. in Biology from St. Bonaventure University and an M.S. in Zoology from The Ohio State University. Elissa WelchElissa Welch is a research associate with the Consortium for Energy, Economics and the Environment (CE3) at the Ohio University Voinovich School. She serves as a coordinator for energy-related, externally-funded projects and research endeavors for CE3. Additionally, Elissa acts as a liaison between the Voinovich School and external academic, non-profit, public, and private sectors to promote Ohio University's advanced energy expertise. Before joining the Voinovich School, she served as a project coordinator for Ohio University's College of Osteopathic Medicine and worked for Natsource, LLC and Environmental Defense Fund. Phyllis BohningPhyllis Bohning joined TechGROWTH Ohio in 2007 and serves as the Deal Flow Coordinator, generating and administrating activities to increase sources of deal flow, outreach and brand awareness for the Ohio University’s Entrepreneurial Signature Program. Prior to joining TechGROWTH Ohio, Phyllis was the Director of Real Estate Services for a national franchising company, overseeing internal operations of contract administration, compliance and risk mitigation. Phyllis has over twenty years of wide-ranging experience in the real estate and franchise development industries. She worked as the primary point of contact for stakeholders invested in multi-million dollar development projects, oversaw corporate relationships with Fortune 100 financial partners, and developed and presented training programs for small business franchisees. John GlazerAfter a career as a university teacher, John Glazer was the long-standing President and CEO of Little Professor Book Centers, Inc., the largest organization of independent bookstores in the U.S. John took the franchising company through several rounds of angel financing, achieving successful exits for investors before acquiring the company in 2001. John served for six years on the Executive Committee of the Book Industry Study Group in New York. John was also the founder and CEO of four other startup companies. He serves as President of New Work Enterprises and as a Director for Lift Africa Technologies, based in South Africa. John has organized a number of technology-based economic development projects in the U.S. and internationally. He has worked with founders and entrepreneurs to start up enterprises, finance them, and initiate the training, marketing, and service programs that help them succeed. John is currently Director of TechGROWTH Ohio, the Third-Frontier Entrepreneurial Signature Program at Ohio University. Sharon Hopkins Sharon Hopkins is the PTAC program manager at the Voinovich School. Her primary responsibility is one-on-one counseling with businesses that want to sell their product or service to the government. She participates, conducts and facilitates seminars on multiple topics relating to business. Her region consists of 17 counties in eastern and southeastern Ohio. She works closely with economic development agencies and government agencies to promote small businesses in her region. Anna JensenAnna Jensen is a business consultant at the Voinovich School. Anna focuses on providing generalized services to clients throughout 32 Ohio counties of Appalachia while coordinating, guiding, and evaluating MBA student learning objectives. She has done extensive work within the energy sector, ranging from solar, wind and geothermal industries to cutting edge, disruptive technologies. Lissa Jollick As a Business Consultant with the Voinovich School’s Small Business Development Center, Lissa Jollick advises small to medium sized businesses to achieve their short and long term goals. Much of her experience centers on assisting organizations achieve their financial goals through a variety of operational activities including access to capital, budgeting, financial reporting, internal controls, process improvements, sales and marketing, and human resource management. Clients are served from all industries, including, energy, manufacturing, service, and retail. Faith KnutsenFaith Knutsen, a member of the TechGROWTH Ohio executive team, has served the Voinovich School since 2008. In addition to managing TechGROWTH Ohio operations, she is a member of the Center for Entrepreneurship staff and manages graduate assistants for the Voinovich School Business Advisory team. Previously, Ms. Knutsen worked for twelve years in an executive role at Sunpower, Inc., an Athens Ohio-based, 60-employee R&D engineering firm. Ms. Knutsen's early career in international development began with a tour as a Peace Corps volunteer in Central Africa and segued into consulting throughout Africa, Eastern Europe and Latin America. Anita FrederickAnita Frederick manages the applied learning portion of the MPA degree program. She is the instructor for the MPA Applied Learning Practicum (POLS 690) requirement during which MPA students are placed with project groups within the Voinovich School and in regional non-profit and government organizations to complete project-based work that links practical experience in the field with the academic theory from the required academic courses. Anita has an MPA from Ohio University. Zach HollZach Holl has been a research associate at the Voinovich School since 2008, focusing on economic development, workforce development and local government collaboration. Zach has led projects focusing on community-based strategic planning, education and training relating to green jobs, development of a web-based cooperative GIS system for small municipalities, and educational needs and opportunities in rural Ohio counties. Zach has also taught classes in community development and project management at Ohio University. Zach came to southeastern Ohio with fifteen years of experience in the public and non-profit sectors as a city planner, program director, and board member focusing on neighborhood revitalization and community and economic development in Baltimore, Maryland and Madison, Wisconsin. Margaret Hutzel Margaret Hutzel is a Senior Research Associate and has been with the Voinovich School since 1999. Before coming to the School, Margaret was a self-employed small business owner. Ms. Hutzel has a Masters degree in Fine Arts from Ohio University and is pursuing a Masters in Public Administration. Matt TrainerMatt Trainer is a data/GIS specialist at the Voinovich School. He got his start in the GIS field in Wilmington, NC working for American Geographic Data, Inc. Matt has also taught two different GIS courses for the Department of Geography at Ohio University as an adjunct instructor during the 2005-6 and 2006-7 academic years. Lezlee J. WareDr. Lezlee J. Ware graduated from Montana State University – Billings with a Bachelor of Science in psychology prior to completing her Master’s and Ph.D. in Experimental Social Psychology at Ohio University. Lezlee has published and collaborated on several applied research topics, including judicial instructions, diabetes management, and certified nurse aide retention. In addition to having experience teaching statistics at Ohio University, Dr. Ware has several peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, primarily related to legal psychology (i.e., judicial instructions, police interrogations). Cheryl HanzelCheryl Hanzel is the program manager and academic advisor for the Environmental Studies program at the Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs. Cheryl also works in the Voinovich School Office of Student Academic Services (OSAS) supporting students and working on academic and administrative issues.
