Ohio University Professor to Attend International Conferences
October 22, 2012
Ohio University Professor Dr. Geoff Dabelko will attend two international conferences on climate change in the upcoming weeks. Dabelko, the director of the Masters of Science and Environmental Studies Program at the Voinovich School for Leadership and Public Affairs, is an expert on climate change and the intersections between the environment and security.
Dr. Dabelko will first fly out to Buenos Aires, Argentina to attend a conference held by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. The IPCC divides its work between three different "working groups" which focus on different areas of expertise. This conference will be the third meeting between the lead authors of Working Group 2, which focuses on the effects climate change has on different socio-economic and natural systems, while taking relationship between vulnerability, adaptation, and sustainable development into consideration.
Dabelko will return to the U.S. to attend a conference titled "Climate Change Adaptation and Peacebuilding in Africa" from October 30 through November 1. It will be hosted by the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington, D. C., where Dabelko served as the director of the Environmental Change and Security Program from 1997-2012. Dabelko will lead a roundtable discussion titled "Causal Connections between Climate Change and Conflict" on Tuesday afternoon.
