Ohio University’s Regional Nonprofit Alliance releases free board governance DVD
November 22, 2010
ATHENS, Ohio (Nov. 22, 2010) – The Regional Nonprofit Alliance (RNA) at Ohio University’s Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs is distributing 500 free instructional DVDs on nonprofit board governance.
The Board Governance DVD was created to address a regional need for better training for board members. The first instructional video of its kind, the DVD provides a wealth of knowledge in interviews with experienced, nonprofit board members and detailed training information.
“The Board Governance DVD project is an important blending of Ohio University's mission to provide a transformational educational experience for its students and the responsibility it has to build capacity in the Appalachian Region of Ohio,” said David Brightbill, OHIO Trustee and Executive Director of Washington-Morgan Community Action. “In this era of heightened accountability for nonprofits boards, the DVD will provide a tool which can help members hone the skills necessary to provide policy guidance and accountability to new and mature boards.”
The DVD’s impact will be furthered by the RNA’s ability to offer it at no charge to any interested nonprofit nationally.
It is divided into six segments and includes instructions on defining a nonprofit’s mission, organizing meetings and tips for improving board efficiency and effectiveness.
The project was made possible with generous funding from the Sugar Bush Foundation.
