The Scripps College launced a signature initiative that will establish it as an academic leader in fostering media innovation and entrepreneurship in the Digital Age. The program is being built around a $3 million endowment from the Scripps Howard Foundation.
The centerpiece of the program is the Scripps Innovation Challenge, an annual competition in which students come up with imaginative solutions to specific innovation needs submitted by media companies. Studentscompete as individuals or teams from across the entire university, recognizing that creative solutions to media problems can come from any discipline or a combination of disciplines. In addition, a new speakers series will bring to campus a steady stream of well-established and emerging industry leaders in media innovation. Finally, the program will expand seminars and training sessions focused on media entrepreneurship, underscoring trends that show increased numbers of Scripps graduates will either create their own brands or take jobs with non-traditional media companies.
