MDIA students gain hands-on experience with local band

ATHENS, Ohio (Oct. 16, 2012)—Media Arts and Studies students enrolled in Music Production: Mixing and Delivery recently welcomed a local band, “The Blues Cowboys,” into the recording studio in the Radio-Television building to record music.

“This class meeting was an opportunity for the students to experiment with some new microphone techniques as well as re-orientation to the recording studio,” said Professor Jeff Redefer, noting that most of the students were intermediate students in the audio recording program.

Members of the band, all from Athens and neighboring Jackson, Ohio, are David McPherson (bass and vocals), David Leach (drums) and Mike Thompson (guitar and vocals.)  They have played music together in some form or another most of their lives.

The recording studio used by students in the school opened in 2003 and was designed by John Storyk.
